U is the native token of Union, a zero-knowledge-powered interoperability protocol designed to connect Cosmos app-chains, Ethereum, and various L2 rollups via trust-minimized light-client messaging rather than traditional multisig bridge validators. The project built a large pre-token community through testnet participation and points programs ahead of its token generation event, and -- as with many airdrop-driven infrastructure launches -- faced community scrutiny over Sybil-farming and allocation fairness once U began trading. Union positions itself against incumbent interoperability players like LayerZero, Wormhole, and Axelar, betting that ZK light-client verification offers stronger security guarantees than oracle/multisig-based bridges. Risks include intense competition in the crowded cross-chain messaging space, unproven long-term security of its ZK light-client implementation at scale, and token-unlock/insider-allocation overhang typical of recent infrastructure TGEs.
